Post-Modernism

November 27th, 2007

Anyway, I’ve been taking a cinematography class, and am now learning about post-modernism.  There is a major thing that bothers me about the post-modern mindset.  I have heard people say this and every time I hear it, it strikes me as wrong.  It’s the ideas that there are no more original stories to tell; that all the stories have been told.

Come on!  This is just lazy thinking!  Okay, lets just, for the sake of argument, say that all of the realist stories have been taken.  I’m not totally convinced that this is true, but it is at least plausible.  However, there is a crap-load of formalist, surreal and abstract stories that have not been told yet.  I hope to tell some of them in this comic.

But seriously!  I’m pretty sure that a powerful being of chaos being stranded on a planet of dinosaurs and loosing his power and therefore using Mott the Hoople songs to communicate with people from another dimension hadn’t been done before.

The problem isn’t that we’re running out of creative and original ideas, it’s that we just don’t have enough creative and original people in positions to make those ideas into a finished product.

Saying there are no new ideas is just an excuse not to push the envelope.
