IS THERE LIFE ON MAAAAAARS?
December 12th, 2007Hooray! Life on Mars is back on. It’s this great TV show on BBC. It’s about this police man who gets in a car accident and wakes up in the 70s. It has him with his modern ideas about detective work (By the book), against the very not-by-the-book team he ends up with in the 70s. Meanwhile, he’s trying to figure out if he’s in a coma and this is all a dream (which seems likely since occasionally he hears things from his hospital room), if he’s actually back in time, or if he’s actually just insane. Now it looks like he’s both in a coma AND in the past, or something like that.
Anyway, it’s an awesome show that’s been off for a while and now it’s back. Apparently, this is the last season. At least that means I’ll get some answers about the plot soon, but it’s a shame to see a good show end so quickly.
About the title, the only reason I can see that it’s named ”Life of Mars” is because the main character was litening to ”Life on Mars” by David Bowie when he got into the accident. The only real similarity between the song and the TV show is that I can’t quite figure out why either is called ”Life on Mars.”
Anyway, so anyone who likes time travel shows should check this one out, it’s good.

Lol, I just finished watching all of this on the box set.
The chorus has
“It’s the freakiest show.
Take a look at the lawman
Beating up the wrong guy.
Oh man!
Wonder if he’ll ever know
He’s in the best selling show.
Is there life on Mars?”
I connected the ‘lawman beating up the wrong guy’ part to the show. It reminded me of Gene Hunt, lol. Also, I guess it was just called that because of the tie-ins to the song…Sam Tyler listens to it when he’s in the crash, when he jumps off the building and when he decides to stay in the 70’s.
I’m not sure, but I guess everything will end up clear when Ashes to Ashes comes out.
But yeah, it’s a great show.

Why do so many nerds pretend to love science but sit on their butts watching TV shows…
Someone care to explain this mystery to me?
One of the Martian satellites found methane plumes on Mars, which could indicate life or geologic activity (one or the other). The interesting thing to note is that with the amount of methane detected, there must be a few trillion farting cows hidden underneath the surface of Mars. A good mantra: “It’s B.S. until someone does the math”
