Guide to Nerds

April 16th, 2008

Alright, if you visit this site, you are probably very nerds.  I mean, the site’s friggin’ called “Ultimate Nerds.”  However, you might have some non-nerdy friends who don’t quite understand you or your nerdy friends.  Or maybe you are a nerd but are wondering about some aspects of neediness that you don’t know as much about.  Well these articles will deal with a particular aspect of being a nerd.  I’ll probably update this once a week, for as long as I feel like it.  If we deal with an area that I’m not as knowledgeable about, one of the other members of Ultimate Nerds may jump in and write an article.

To start it out, I guess I’ll deal with:

What is a Nerd?

A nerd is has a collection of certain fandoms.  Fandoms are something that the nerd is very interested in, sometimes to an almost obsessive level.  There are some fandoms which are pretty much universal, or at least very common amongst nerds and which are defining traits amongst nerds.  These are Computers, Videogames, Tabletop games, Comics, Fantasy, Science Fiction and Anime.  Nerds are also generally quite skillful at certain academic topics such as Math, Science or Literature.  Other Fandoms can include old B Movies, computer programming, old sit-coms, trading card games and British Comedies among many others.

I will try to write a new entry every week (until I eventually decide to stop), each covering an element, either large or small, of nerds.
