So, I thought I’d kick off the very first Ultimate Nerds Awesome Review with something made entirely from awesome:  The Pinnacle by <ST1Kansas.  </ST1Now, I’m not saying this is the best song ever, just the most awesome song ever, there is a subtle difference.  But first of all, why is The Pinnacle so awesome.  Well first of all, it’s a fantasy epic, second of all it has great lyrics, and thirdly it is made by <ST1Kansas, the kings of Prog Rock instrumental breaks.  The song opens up strong with Violin, Drums, and synth and goes into a 2 minute instrumental which changes every 20 seconds or so, bringing in different instrument combinations for the different segments.  The song then begins in earnest as the lyrics come in.  We now hear a story about a great adventurer who has grown old and now sees a world that no longer has a place for heroes.  The song then takes a darker note in the second part where we find that the heroes journey wasn’t always so heroic and the hero has many regrets.  Next up it an awesome instrumental break which is true to <ST1Kansas style, using synth, electric organ, and violins.  The final part of the song goes back to the melody of the first lyrical part of the song.  It now deals with the heroes journey into the unknown as he approaches his death.  In the end, he seas what lies beyond this world.  The song ends with the chilling line

“Life is amusing

Though we are loosing

Drowned in tears of awe”
