Wild Zero

July 8th, 2007
Ben here. (The guy that draws the terrifying images you see before you.) Now, in
my never-ending quest for the awesome, I have come across many things. Some
shocked me. Some terrified me. And some made me want to crawl into a corner and
cry. Then there are some things that simply made me stand there, staring, with a
huge smile on my face, and quite possibly a little drool. Such a thing is Wild
Zero, one of the greatest movies ever to come out of Japan.

Without giving too much away, the movie mainly focuses on Ace, a young man with
a pompadour who wants to one day be a rock star. There’s just a few problems.
One: He has no idea how to play an instrument. Two: He’s a loser. And that’s
coming from the cartoonist of something called “Ultimate Nerds.” However, his
life changes forever when he meets the Japanese super-powered Ramones-influenced
Rockabilly band, GUITAR WOLF!!!

Now, Guitar Wolf (also the alias of the lead singer) is an actual band. I’ve
heard their music before, and while I admit that their songs aren’t so much
singing as they are yelling, they yell REALLY well. Anyway, through a series of
unlikely events, Ace ends up as Guitar Wolf’s “Rock and Roll blood brother.”
Guitar Wolf tells him that if he’s ever in danger, he should just call, and
Guitar Wolf will come to save him. And a damn good thing too, because it’s not
long before aliens invade and start making the dead rise from their graves. And
the only things that can kill these undead monsters? Bullets, and ROCK AND
ROLL!!!!!

However, it soon becomes clear that the zombies are the least of Guitar Wolf’s
worries. One word: CAPTAIN. Captain is Guitar Wolf’s former manager, out for
revenge on our hero. He always has a Rock Lee-style wig, and a pair of
hot-pants. He’s armed and Dangerous. Other than that, he’s impossible to
describe so I won’t even try.

This is, in my mind, the pinnacle of artistic achievement in a movie. It has
action, romance, controversy, just the right amount of sadness, zombies,
motorcycles, guns that always cause a head to explode(sometimes three!), and of
course, ROCK AND ROLL!!!!!
