Street Fighter Alpha 3 Max review by new member!

July 20th, 2007

Hello, I am a new member here! BUT, before you start throwing level 33 + battleswords at me, know that I am a friend of the webmaster Malec2b. With this known, here is my first review.

Street Fighter Alpha 3 Max (for PSP)

Graphics 10/10: When you first play Street Fighter Alpha 3 Max, you might think, okay…the graphics look JUST LIKE Alpha 3! But the reason Alpha 3 Max gets a 10 for graphic work is for one reason alone, it brings the full 100 % Street Fighter style to a portable system. Not a console, but the PSP! All the characters are well defined and the action is fast and constant, with no slowdown whatsoever. You can’t ask for much more here.

Sound: 8/10

All the classic effects are here, from the “Hadoken!” fighter cry, to catchy music tunes. Because the PSP is basically a portable PS2, the music sounds just as good as any console can dish out, but don’t expect cinema quality music.

Gameplay: 10/10

Sure, Alpha 3 Max brings 100 % of the graphic style of Street Fighter to the portable space, but what about the timeless Street Fighter feel that keeps the series unmatched in its genre? Simply put, you won’t tell the difference if you played this game on a PS2 or the PSP, because Capcom ported this game so perfectly! The PS2 controller’s D-Pad is by far, the best for any fighting game, and the PSP’s D-Pad mimics it exactly, so executing fire uppercuts and spinning kicks is all too easy, and new moves can be learned by novices and experts alike. Modes are abound, from classic arcade and 2 VS 1 matches, to new modes like 100 Kumite (when 100 opponents face you in rapid succession). All the characters are here, and all of them play just as you would expect…REALLY WELL. Ryu, Ken, Chun Li, Akuma (and my favorite of them all…Sagat) are all here and you will find many new characters and abilities as you play more. World Tour is  an even cooler mode, adding RPG elements to an awesome 2D fighter. The fact that everything here plays 100 % like a console, but rests in the palm of your hand is absolutley stunning and will keep this game in your PSP for weeks.

Overall: 10/10

If you like fighting games, SFA3Max is as good as it gets. I’d go to say that only SSBM can match this gem for sheer customization, replayability and fun. And until Super Smash comes to portables, the PSP has one of the best of the genre in your hand.
